VINCENZO GEMITO BIOGRAFÍA

1852-1929 - Vincenzo Gemito was found orphaned as a child and adopted by a poor sculptor. He first learned the trade from his father and then worked for two local artists. At the age of sixteen, he sold his first statue to the city of Naples. In 1877, Gemito established his reputation by displaying his Neapolitan Fisherboy at the Paris Salon. In 1883, he built a bronze foundry in Naples. Several years later, he completed a statue of Charles V, the Holy Roma Emperor. Gemito suffered from a mental breakdown in 1887, and didn’t resume sculpting until 1909.
