Marisol Bustamante was born in Cordoba, Spain, in 1964. Raised on a family farm with her seven siblings, she spent most of her early childhood drawing and painting. In 1983 she pursued her studies at the Facultad de Bellas Artes in Seville. In 1988, she received her degree in Fine Arts, specializing in art restoration, and began working on her doctorate. For five years Bustamante worked throughout Spain on many restoration projects, such as the San Isidro Church (XIV) in Seville, and the restoration of murals in the Guadaloupe Monastery in Caceres. She utilizes mural painting techniques, textured bases, gold leaf patterns, old maps and manuscripts and mineral pigments to achieve the desired results. Thus, Bustamante’s work combines a contemporary approach while revealing influences from the masters. Bustamante lives with her Dutch husband and her three daughters in Madrid, Spain.
